Julie C. Van Camp earned a BA in philosophy from Mount Holyoke College, JD from Georgetown University, and PhD in philosophy from Temple University, where she completed her dissertation, “Philosophical Problems of Dance Criticism.” She has been admitted to the District of Columbia Bar and the State Bar of California. She is Professor Emerita of Philosophy at California State University, Long Beach. Her research focuses on philosophy of art law, freedom of expression, and philosophy of dance. Currently, she is serving as Executive Director/Secretary-Treasurer of the American Society for Aesthetics. She was formerly a Program Officer at the National Endowment for the Humanities, Director of Grants and Contracts at Cal State LA, and Associate Director of the University of California Humanities Research Institute. Her scholarly work has been published in many journals, including the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, British Journal of Aesthetics, Dance Chronicle, and Dance Research Journal.
